BRANDOS BOMBS 2017#2

Good afternoon Bombers and welcome back. Tough weekend on the punt last weekend with a plethora of sport – tennis, big bash, NFL, racing and a little tipple on the soccer. I have worked out – too many events to punt on. It reminds me of my uni days lining up at Sizzler – plenty of food on offer but at the end of the day nothing is any good – not unlike last weekend. Harden up Brando you say – I am and to use racing parlance – “just straighten her up and get back on the bit”.  As the great Hymie from Get Smart (the actor who played him died last Friday) said about the Sports Widow “ I guess we’re not wired the same”

Beau Taplin (whomever the fu.. he is) once said “she was unstoppable not because she had failures or doubts but because she continued on despite them”. Well Beau, whatever bird you were talking about she clearly had Jockey Josh Cartwright on her side. Josh, you are Brandos Bombs 2017#2 Knob of the Week after your “wide ride” to knockout the horses running down the outside to protect the lead of your jockey girlfriend Anna Jordsjo. Top stuff Josh and you can add that to your indiscretion on Melbourne Cup day in Canberra last year – trying to steal a rival jockey’s whip – I hope that was not in the name of love!! BOG #2

This week’s 2017 BOG#2 is Hawthorne player Jarryd Roughead. After a tough 2016 fighting melanoma, Roughead (a 4 time premiership player) has now been rewarded with the Hawks Captaincy in 2017, taking over from Luke Hodge. This a just reward for you Roughie after a great career at the Hawks and a tough year last year.  You are our 2017 BOG#2 and your signed Melbourne Demons jersey is in the mail.

1. Cricket

Finally The Pakis had a win!! Shame they did not get on with the bookies. To be honest thank fu.. the Pakistan tour is over – frankly it has been boring and once again has given the Aussie Cricket team a false sense of success by beating a second-rate Pakistan team. Let’s get to the real game – the Big Bash – the Heat take on the Renegades at home tonight – Heat win and a final at the Gabba next week!!! Go the Heat. One more week of cricket and we can get back into the real game – footy – all 3 codes!!! In the words of The Sports Widow – I have had enough cricket!!!

2.      Australian Open Tennis

The Joker and The Djoker are both out. Yes, Kyrgios out and Novak out, both in 5 sets and one of those was humble in defeat and focussed on the opponent’s win – the other’s name is Nick Kyrgios. I am looking forward to cheering on my namesake tonight the Ipswich kid – Ash Barty. C’mon Ash a triple would be great – your former team, The Heat in the Womens BBL at 2pm this afternoon followed by The Heat followed by your victory on Rod Laver Arena – that’s an all-up if I have ever seen one.

3.      US Sports

The Duke rightly chased the long shots last weekend in the NFL playoffs. No-one other than Bookies make a quid backing $1.25 favourites and if you want to – give me a call. The Duke will be back for Sunday’s match – The Falcons hosting the Packers and Monday morning’s game – The Patriots hosting The Steelers. Magic Millions race day has come and gone for another year – it was fu..in hot, I could not find a winner but thankfully my hand did not go up at the sales ring after a full day of cans!!
