BRANDOS BOMBS #014

Friday, November 18th 2016

Good afternoon Bombers – Australian cricket is in turmoil. Why did the bookies have The Proteas at $4.20 at the start of the Hobart test match?? By the end of day 1 The Proteas were $1.30 and probably overs at that price. More on this below. Mal Smellyourfinger gave Benny a lesson in coaching and humility guiding The Kangaroos to an easy win over The Poms. Now for The Kiwis and redemption for the Kangas. The Wallabies continued on their winning ways albeit with a get out of jail card from the ref. Paris awaits this weekend. The Socceroos have the draw yips and need to lift their game if they wish to continue to the World Cup in 2018. Conor McGregor matched his Irish craic with a second round thumping of Alvarez in the Hexagon on Sunday and last but not least The Nikars beat the Monarhs in the Latvian Futsal champs. As Mrs Davis says to Jay Trotter in the movie Let it Ride – “there’s a fine line between winning and losing” to which Jay Trotter replied “yeah, the finish line.” Here we go:

BOG #005

This week’s BOG#005 is Jobe Watson from The Essendon Football Club. The Bombers Captain handed back his Brownlow Medal during the week as a result of his drug suspension. Now it is a bit rough that he had to take a suspension let alone surrender his Brownlow Medal without knowing the supplements he was taking were illegal. The Club insiders and in particular James Hird should be made responsible. Maybe James Hird should hand his Brownlow medal back. Jobe, the way you handled yourself – your humility was well beyond what would have been expected in the situation. Well done.

Knob of the Week #014

Once again no shortage of candidates this week for Knob of the week – The Aussie Cricket team, the bookies who put up $4.20 for The Proteas in the Hobart test but no no no there is a standout winner of this week’s Brandos Bombs Knob of the Week #014. In fact, he is miles in front for the yearly award. Edin Dzeko you are Knob of the week for dacking a Greek player in a World Cup qualifying game. Edin you are a dead set knob – not only did you embarrass yourself but you received a red card for your actions and your team subsequently drew 1 all. To see the video go to: http://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/watch-soccer-player-gets-red-card-after-pulling-down-opponents-shorts/. As Brandos Bombs knob of the week you will receive a set of braces in the mail!!

1. NRL

The Four nations tournament comes to its climax this weekend with The Kangaroos taking on The Kiwis at 12.30am Monday morning. The English press would be happy to see the back of Benny and I would suggest that the Burgess brothers are happy to send him off as well. Anyway, back to the main game on Monday morning. The Kiwis have a knack of winning these big games and love being the underdog. Well NZ you are the underdog for good reason – The Kangaroos are going to give you a touch up. In the words of the great Kramer – “Your toast George, toast” Go the Kangas – odds supplied by Luxbet:

Kangaroos         $1.22

Kiwis                $4.25

Line at $1.90 is 11.5 points

2. Rugby Union

The Wallabies have mad more changes than a hooker’s sheets. Resting players, rotating players and benching players for impact. All bullsh.t – if you are fit you play – team cohesion and competition for spots creates winning teams. The Wallabies are on the same road that the Australian Cricket team are on – a slippery slope. The French to give The Wallabies a reminder of the 2 easy beat teams they have conquered. Game is on at 6am Sunday morning.

Vive La France - odds supplied by Luxbet:

France             $1.80

Wallabies        $2

Line at $1.90 is 0.5 point

3. Football (most call it Soccer)

The Roar managed a respectable draw last Saturday night but they are back at Lang Park tomorrow night starting at 6.50pm. The Roar are hosting the undefeated Sydney FC. The blue bloods from The Harbour city don’t know what they are coming up against. The Roar have created a fortress at home and my football man BT is backing them to win. C’mon The Roar. Markets supplied by Luxbet:

Roar                  $2.80

Sydney              $2.40

Draw                 $3.45

4.      Cricket

Constant changes to the team does not create a winning team. Spots need to be fought for. Leaving bowlers out from tours, resting them from Shield matches and more coaches and sports scientists than players. A total revamp needs to happen and it needs to start at the top. Sutherland go, Pat Howard go back to rugby and the gazillion coaches to go as well.Let Darren Lehmann run the show with assistance from Smith and the selectors. The day/night test match begins on Thursday at the Adelaide oval. The people in Adelaide really get behind their cricket and it is always a great test match. The Aussies would want to improve to last longer than 3 days. For mine I can’t see that happening and The Sports Widow will be happy with that.

Markets supplied by Luxbet:

Australia             $2.40

Proteas               $2.10

Draw                   $5.00 (should be $1001)

5.      US Sports

The Duke, The Duke, The Duke is on fire. Go to www.sports360.com.au on Sunday night to continue the roll of The Duke.

6.      Golf

Day 2 of The Australian Open at the NSW Golf Course is up and running and The K Man (Sports360 golfing guru) has 3 of his 4 tips in the top 10 of the leader board. Go to www.sports360.com.au  to see his mail.

7.      Racing

The unofficial end of the Spring Carnival is at Ballarat tomorrow with the $300000 feature Ballarat Cup. No doubt the locals from “The Rat” will be out in force – you have to halve the official crowd because they all have two heads. This is confirmed by the fact they have a race that goes the Sydney/Brissie way of running – The clockwise race. Anyway, it is a good 10 card race. Group 1 Racing heads West with Railway Stakes day at Ascot in Perth. Gives everyone a chance to punt all day??!! Rosehill in Sydney and Eagle Farm in Brissie. Let’s find a winner: Markets supplied by Luxbet:

Ballarat:

Best Bet:             Race 8 No 14 Nozomi

Best Roughie:       Race 5 No 7 Our Boy Charlie

Rosehill:

Best Bet:            Race 5 No 6 Le Cordon Bleu
